Big South Set for Big Finish
JJVA 17N TEAM ROX Adis and UNION 17 Asics Cavins took control of their pool today, and when it came time for them to play each other, the match was intense. Both these teams proved today that strong defense can keep you in games. Corinne Quiggle, a multi-talented setter/hitter for JJVA 17N proved to be a stud in this match with her setting decisions. Union’s powerful outside hitter Haley Libs put down a ton of kills for her team, sealing a point for point match that ended in a Union 17 Asics victory 19-17 in the third.
More from the Disney Volleyball Showcase…

Jacksonville Juniors Volleyball Association was at the Disney Showcase in force.

JJVA 18 N Matt placed 10th in the 18 USA division 6-2 record led by MIT recruit Ali Davanzo and Palm Beach Atlantic University signees Jamie Weinckowski and Sarah Ragland.

JJVA 17 N Adis placed 6/16 in the 17 Open division two weeks after earning their 17 USA bid at Crossroads. This athletic team moved up and proved to themselves they can compete in the Open division, led by Denvyr Tyler-Palmer and Nadine Williams on the outside, Corinne Quiggle showing off her all-around game, Molly Burkhardt setting and libero Logan Holanchock leading all players with 88 digs and a 2.33 passing average.  Defensive Specialist Sophie Ligouri passed well and served up several key aces.   Madison Dill and Olivia Fallon pounded the ball consistently.  Middles Khelsea Gordon and Ebony Powers blocked like mad-Women!!!

JJVA 17 N Kara placed 16/40 in 17 American with a record of 6-3. The team was led by libero Yasmeen Chan defensively and Christa Schmieder and Sarah Dandridgeoffensively.

JJVA 16 N Magen played in the 16 Open and surprised a few by placing 7/16. Revving up their offense was setter Kayla Brockway and pounding kills were OHs Olivia Rutledge, Savannah Murray and Emily Magee.  Libero's Carly Davey and Madison "Maddo" Sullivan were ON.  Middles Carlton French and Sophie deJong were smacking kills.  RS Hitter Shelby Hackett played well too.

JJVA 16 N Robin played in the 16 American division placing 9/64 teams with a record of 5-2. They were led by setter Julian Glassman and liberos Sydney Bates and Danielle Sink.  Outside Hitters Amy Benson, Annie Pipkin and Middles Ila Elstein and Mason Gardella along with Christina Mayberry and Alexa Heilman helped the offense stay in many a match.

JJVA 15 N John finished 7/14 in the 15 Open and showed promise. Leading the way was RS Drew Davidow, OH Allie Smith and Libero Ali Smith.  Setter Angela Chan had a terrific tournament also.  Middle Hitters Emily Hudson, Maggie Mathews and 8th grader Milla Ciprian were outstanding.  Kayla Duggan had an all around super weekend as well as Madison Donnelly.

JJVA 15 N Ginny placed 18/30 in the USA division, led by setter Brittany French.  Libero Haley Cox made some awesome saves.

15N Team ROX John Qualifies @ Big South!

The JJVA 15N team went to Atlanta and showed how “BIG” they could be at the largest qualifier in the Nation.  Beating every team in two straight sets, the girls went into the gold finals match on Sunday with a 9-0 record.  The competition was fierce but the girls stayed focused, confident, and played as a team.

After a slow start on Friday against AXIS the girls picked it up and took care of business against Tsunami and MVP.  Angela Chan (setter) ran offense like a champ and ended the first day with a three match assist percentage of .406%.  Serve receive was also very consistent Madison Donnelly (ds / libero) she didn’t let anything go by her and passed a three match total of 2.27.  She also shared the passing duties with Alie Smith (libero / outside) she was a ball magnet and passed a single match high of 2.6.  Alie also hit a .266% against AXIS.  Allison Smith (outside) kept the ball in front of her and had a three match hitting percentage of .300%. Kayla Duggan (right side) greased up her shoulder had a solid hitting day with a three match hitting percentage of .333%.

The second day brought even better results for the team.  coming out at 100 miles an hour the girls bulldozed over club Superior and did not let them score more than ten points in either sets.  They continued the trend and did not allow KVA to score more than 14 points.  Their third and final match of the day was against, Lions 15-1.  Last season the same Lions team beat our girls, this season the girls made sure that it did not happen again.  Even though it was a close match, JJVA still did not drop a set to the already qualified Lions.  Drew Davidow (outside) had a ball pounding day and hit a three match total of .323%.  Emily Hudson (Middle) swung for the fences and had an amazing three match hitting percentage of .727%!  Young gun Milla Ciprian (middle) had a blistering single match hitting best of .444%.  Silent assassin Maggie Mathews (middle / outside) snuck up and had a very loud single match hitting best of .500%.

The last day was all about staying together as a team.  With pulled muscles, sore bodies, bumps and bruises, and sickness the girls scratched, kicked and fought their way to the final match.  with four more matches to go, they stayed true to their two set winning streak all the way up to the finals.  They had to play a tough Triangle team at 8am.  10am, went up against Rockwood and had to battle against a very good right side hitter.  Then comes the rubber match at 12pm against the Lions once again.  The Lions came out to play and was giving it all they had, but JJVA  used all nine or their players to pull out an amazing victory!  Although the team fell short in the finals, they are all very excited to work hard, get better, and do well in Minneapolis, MN for the 2014 Girls’ Junior National Championships!
